Politics and Virals

It has come to my attention that political factions in Holland frequently use new media to attract more “younger” voters. This mostly results in short viral movies where they try to expose key points of their program and grab the chance to make fun of the competitive factions.

Political faction “Groen Links” uses the viral to create awareness about their program and try to strengthen their positioning. PVDA takes the concept a bit further and tries to attract the attention of the people who grew up with Nintendo 8 Bit (people like me) by making a viral movie where u see a level of Mario played with the character of Wouter Bos. In the level there are all sorts of aspects which can be traced back to the faction program, like the rose which stands for PVDA.

The same rose is mocked by the VVD in yet another viral movie. The movie is supposed to be funny, but I don’t really get it. Politics and humor are still two things that don't blend.
